Absolutely not. When it comes to creative writing, neither of us are fans of AI. We're here to support creativity as well as writers' rights to privacy and their intellectual property.
Yep! EmberWrite exports to Word (.docx) or PDF in a standard manuscript format so you can share your work with anyone.
We also offer a lightweight ePub export.
Finally, we offer both options to export only your manuscript or your entire project so you can take your work anywhere. We're always improving the export options we offer, so stay tuned for more formats!
On your hard-drive or the cloud storage provider of your choice (depending on where you set your home project folder). With the desktop app, EmberWrite never transfers any of your data across the web. You control where your writing is stored and you arethe only one who can access your work.
Not yet. At the moment, we're a desktop-only app. But, we have mobile apps on our list of projects we want to look into soon.
EmberWrite is currently available as a desktop app for Windows or Mac. You don't even need an internet connection to use it.
But, if you'd like to sync your projects between devices, you can place your home folder on a cloud storage platform (i.e. Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud) and set your devices to connect to that home folder. In this scenario, we recommend setting EmberWrite's automatic backups to the hard drive of each device.
Absolutely! EmberWrite features an automatic backup system that can save up to the last 5 versions of your project to the folder of your choice (either your hard drive or your preferred cloud storage provider). So you don't have to worry about losing your writing.
In short: because we're new. We pre-launched via our Kickstarter in November 2025 and officially launched in March of 2026.
We're a team of two:
- Paul, a developer who wanted to write, but couldn’t get started because no tools could help him make sense of the writing process
- Micah, a writer who’d been spinning stories since she could hold a pen, but was getting fed up with not knowing how to use 80% of the writing app she’d used for 15 years
We've bootstrapped EmberWrite, meaning we don't have investors. We put money out of our own pockets into EmberWrite then crowd-funded via Kickstarter. So EmberWrite is supported entirely based on sales of the app.
